After more than a decade of leadership at the Urban Land Institute (ULI), Lisette van Doorn has announced she will step down from her role as ULI Europe CEO at the end of the year, to spend time with family and consider the next steps in her career.
ULI has strengthened its position as a dynamic and established organisation, with strong member engagement and a core team driving its many events and programmes across Europe. Driving significant growth, expanding the membership base from around 2,000 to over 5,500 members in Europe.
Throughout the past 10 years, ULI Europe has achieved significant milestones, including the launch of several key initiatives that have become the foundations of the organisation’s mission. These include the C Change programme, the Europe Conference attracting around 800 senior industry professionals from across the industry, the high school education programme UrbanPlan that is now active in five countries across Europe, the development of the Product Councils with now 14 active in Europe, a diverse suite of research and best practice reports and the creation and development of 15 National Councils delivering robust initiatives and programmes.
These initiatives have positioned ULI Europe as a thought leader in urban development, with the organisation now hosting over 300 events annually in Europe alone, leaving a strong legacy for Lisette’s successor to build upon.
Lisette van Doorn commented:
“It has been a wonderful journey, one that has allowed me to learn, grow and meet so many inspiring members and industry leaders. I am truly grateful for the trust and contributions from our members, whose support has been essential in advancing ULI’s mission. Together, we have worked to shape the future of the built environment, creating transformative impact in communities around the world.”
“This is a natural moment for me to transition, I am proud of all we’ve accomplished, and I’m confident that ULI Europe is well positioned for continued success, with a strong team and such committed and active members. Our next leader will have the opportunity to build on this foundation and lead ULI Europe into its next phase, driving positive change in urban development. Personally, I am looking forward to spending time with my family and excited about the next chapter in my career.”
ULI Europe’s Board Chair, Anne Kavanagh, commented:
“Lisette is a passionate leader who has played a significant role in the last decade of positioning ULI in Europe for transformative impact in communities. She has built a strong , committed team and together they have delivered many accomplishments. It has been a pleasure working with Lisette & I wish her every success for the future.
Over the summer , I look forward to working with Angela and Bohill & Partners to secure an exceptional successor to continue the ULI mission in Europe.”
ULI’s Global CEO, Angela Cain, concludes:
“I am so proud of Lisette and all she has accomplished during her decade-long tenure with ULI. Her transformative impact with members and communities across Europe has no doubt laid the groundwork for even greater success in the coming years. She will be sorely missed by her peers and staff team, and we are grateful for her many meaningful contributions.”
Lisette will remain in her role until the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition and handover to her successor. The search for her replacement is underway, and ULI is committed to ensuring continuity of its mission and strategic direction.
