Awards celebrate the contributions of a senior leader, a young professional and a DEI champion to the real estate industry and to the community in Europe.
Three built environment leaders who exemplify the spirit and mission of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) have been recognised for their exceptional contributions to the industry in Europe and to civic, social endeavours, in the sixth annual ULI European Leadership Awards.
The winners include:
• Edward Siskind, Founder and CEO, Cale Street Partners, who has been awarded the ULI European Leader Award
• Thibault Weston Smith, Co-Founder, Crayon Partners, who won the ULI European Talent Award.
• Audrey Klein, Partner, Spencer House, who was awarded the ULI European Trish Barrigan Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
The awards were announced during the flagship 2024 ULI Europe Conference in Milan.
“These awards enable ULI to recognise some of the most remarkable and outstanding leaders and give them deserved recognition for their impactful contributions to European real estate, and to their communities”, said ULI European Leadership Awards Chairman Karim Habra, Global Co-Head of Real Estate at Partners Group. “We are delighted to celebrate this year’s three recipients and their fantastic achievements.”
Celebrating the lifetime achievements of a senior leader exemplifying personal and professional contributions to the industry and the community, the ULI European Leader Award was presented to Edward Siskind.
Lars Huber, jury member, CEO, European Region, Hines, and immediate past Chair of ULI Europe, comments: “Ed is an incredible professional, whose leadership, vision, and commitment to excellence in the real estate industry has truly distinguished him. He has made a significant international impact in both Europe and the United States across various leadership positions during his 23-year career at Goldman Sachs & Co, and in 2024 he founded the Europe and North America focused real estate finance firm, Cale Street Partners. He is a fantastic role model, having inspired many others working in the industry. His leadership style is both collegiate and collaborative, which is very reflective of the ethos of the Urban Land Institute, where he is a trustee. We are delighted to present the award to Ed.”
The ULI European Talent Award, celebrating standout professional, personal, and civic commitments to the real estate industry, and to the community, of a young talent up to 35 years old, was presented to Thibault Weston Smith.
Juergen Fenk, jury member and Managing Director, Eastdil Secured Ltd, comments: “Congratulations Thibault, whose more than a decade contribution to the industry, hard work and creativity, are truly inspiring, having built important bridges between real estate and proptech. He began his career at Tishman Speyer before joining the extraordinary 14Trees in Kenya, a housing start-up accelerating the use of construction innovations in developing economies, which delivered the world’s first 3D printed school in 2020. Later he joined Realty Corporation where he was responsible for expanding real estate and proptech investments, before most recently cofounding Crayon Partners. He is a strong supporter of ULI and its mission, and as Europe Young Leaders group chair has made a huge contribution to its ongoing success and reputation, inspiring and empowering others. Alongside fellow committee members, he launched the ULI PropTech Innovation Challenge last year, which focuses on the most innovative solutions to some of real estate’s most pressing challenges.”
Finally, the ULI European Trish Barrigan Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which recognises the leadership and contribution of an individual in advancing and promoting DEI in the real estate industry and the broader community, was presented to Audrey Klein.
Emily Bohill, jury member and Managing Partner, Bohill Partners, comments: “Audrey lives and breathes diversity, equity, and inclusion, leading by example through her tireless and inspirational commitment. She recognises the importance and power of professional networks for women in the real estate industry, and her work to plan and execute WIRE’s mission to promote and support the career paths of women has driven real positive change. She has also helped ULI to raise important philanthropic funding to further the UrbanPlan educational programme for schools, which is so important to growing DEI in the industry. Poignantly, Trish Barrigan, whose legacy this award honours, was one of the co-founders of WIRE, and I’m sure she would be very proud of Audrey’s achievement in receiving the award this year. Congratulations to Audrey for her deserved win.”
Lisette van Doorn, CEO of ULI Europe, comments: “These Awards demonstrate the value of ULI, featuring such a distinctive jury active across the built environment and a geographical spread of ULI Europe Executive Committee members, Governing Trustees, Trustees, ULI NEXT and Young Leaders, and other senior industry leaders. This is another great example of ULI at its best, with members leading our work and celebrating their peers for their leadership and impact in further advancing the industry.”
The ULI European Leadership Awards jury is chaired by Karim Habra (Partners Group) and includes Emily Bohill (Bohill Partners), Andrea Carpenter (Diversity Talks Real Estate), Rik Eertink (CBRE Investment Management Europe BV), Juergen Fenk (Eastdil Secured Ltd), Lars Huber (Hines Europe Ltd), Beverley Kilbride (LaSalle Investment Management), Ariana Maass (Berlin Hyp AG), Haris Piplas (Drees & Sommer SE), Kari Pitkin, Olaf Schmidt (DLA Piper Italy), and Lisette van Doorn (ULI Europe).
