London, 15 July 2024: The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has appointed Imogen Thompson as Executive Director for ULI UK.
Thompson joins ULI, the world’s oldest and largest network for real estate experts, following a decade-long association with the institute serving as an active member on a voluntary basis, including notably in the role of ULI UK Young Leader Chair as well as sitting on several committees and Product Councils across both the UK and Europe.
During her career, Thompson has led the strategic planning and approvals programmes for multi-billion-pound regeneration projects, and has focused on large scale regeneration schemes, transit orientated developments, and long-term complex built environment programmes. She brings a breadth of experience working in both private and public sectors across the UK, EU, and North America. Most recently, Thompson was Director, Planning & Development at Deloitte LLP, and has also held senior roles at AEC, Capita and Transport for London during her career.
ULI UK is the global research, best practice, and education institute’s largest national council in Europe, with over 1,300 members. Thompson will work closely with the ULI UK Chair and wider Executive Committee to develop a vision and strategy for ULI UK as she steps into post to unlock the potential to grow the membership and create impact and influence in the sector, including in local and regional development issues and land use policies.
Mark Collins, Chair, ULI UK National Council and Executive Director and Chairman of Residential at CBRE, said: “Imogen’s well established and close association with ULI will undoubtedly enable her to launch into this role with a clarity of purpose and a deep understanding of the organisation. She also brings a breadth of knowledge and experience of the built environment industry to the role. I have worked closely with Imogen in recent times in her capacity as Chair of our Young Leaders group, and I am really excited that her energy, vision and commitment will drive us forward. We look forward to working with her, as she applies her skillset, leadership capabilities, and strategic vision to this role to further build upon a great legacy and focus on some of the most pressing industry challenges in the UK.”
Thompson joins at an exciting time for ULI UK, as the National Council will host the ULI Europe Conference in London next year (16-19 June 2025).
Imogen Thompson, ULI UK Executive Director, comments, “I am pleased to be stepping into this leadership role for the largest National Council in Europe, having been an active member of ULI for many years. ULI is an organisation that brings together thought leaders from across every aspect of the built environment industry, and I have seen first-hand the impact that our work can have as we address our industry’s most complex challenges and critical issues. I am looking forward to furthering our mission in the UK and leveraging the expertise of our members through knowledge sharing and learning opportunities that only an organisation such as ULI can provide.”
Lisette van Doorn, CEO of ULI Europe, said: “Imogen has extensive experience across the real estate industry, and we are so pleased to welcome her to ULI. The UK is the biggest market for us with over 1,300 members and huge additional potential for us to further ULI’s mission and grow our membership. I look forward to working closely with Imogen, along with our leadership and members in the UK to drive forward our ambitious expansion strategy.”
