Munich housing development Domagkpark has won the 2017 ULI Germany Award for Excellence. Inspired by the ULI Global Awards for Excellence, the award highlights real estate development best practice that reflects a dedication to fostering vibrant and competitive metropolitan areas and building effective relationships among business, government, and community stakeholders in the DACH region The submissions are rated and analysed by an independent and multidisciplinary ULI jury.
Fueled by impressive cooperation, joint building ventures, real estate developers and the City of Munich, Domagkpark evolved from a military encampment – and later an artist colony – into an attractive and much-needed living quarters. Fifty percent of the housing projects in the development are funded by the public, and the developers strove to accommodate the artists already present. Because of this, the area presents itself as an open minded and socially mixed living quarter.
Jury Chairman Prof. Jürgen Bruns-Berentelg, Chairman of the Board at HafenCity Hamburg, said the following about the winning project: “The city development project Domagkpark in Munich is a showcase example of implementation-oriented city planning, where public needs and private contributions of builders and different user groups merge.”
The jury consisted of ULI members, all renowned experts from academia, private and public real estate.
