A jury of ULI members chooses finalists and winners of the ULI Europe Awards for Excellence. Members of the jury are recognised leaders who represent a broad geographic diversity and many areas of real estate development expertise, including finance, land planning and development, public affairs, design, and professional services.
Jurors operate independently, applying the highest standards of evaluation and professional practice as reflected in the code of ethics of the Urban Land Institute.
With 30 years in the financial and real estate sector Giancarlo has an extensive transnational experience. He has worked in Generali as CEO of Generali Real Estate, asset management and real estate services company, and in Lazard & Co where he has covered different roles such as Partner, CEO of Lazard Italy, CEO of Lazard RE and Head of European Real Estate Industry.
He currently serves as Chairman of GcS and Partners, advisory firm, as CEO of Reale Compagnia Italiana, property company managing historical assets, Chairman of Prelios SGR, real estate asset management company, Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors of Risanamento SpA, a property company specialized in development and trading activities listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, and board member of Cofinance SA, a real estate investment platform active in France and USA.
Giancarlo holds a Degree in Economics and Finance from Luigi Bocconi University of Milan.
Clarissa Alfrink joined Avison Young in November 2019 to help drive the company’s European expansion plans. As member of the European Executive management team she helps to establish Avison Young as a leading European Real Estate advisory business, as they focus on becoming the go to experts on real estate matters in all main European cities from a position of deep knowledge and by offering the fullest range of services across every aspect of the real estate life cycle.
She joined from Apleona Real Estate Management where she was responsible for Corporate Business Development. In this role she led high level management projects including the integration of GVA and the due diligence process of the real estate business unit sale to EQT. She was furthermore involved in the development of new strategies and organisational models as well as the steering of new operational business lines and products. Throughout her whole career, Clarissa has always taken a role whereby strategy and innovation has guided business development.
Clarissa studied Architecture at the Technical University of Delft and got her Executive MBA at the Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University). She furthermore participated in 2019 in the Executive Course in Singularity University (Copenhagen), extending her knowledge in the technological shifts across various industries.
Clarissa Alfrink has been an active member of ULI since 2010 with roles as the Young Leader Chair in the Netherlands, the Chair of ULI Europe Young Leaders, as well as a member of the ULI NEXT Europe Committee. And has recently been appointed as Global Governing Trustee.
Theodoros N. Charagionis, Executive Chairman of Charagionis Group companies, was born in 1948 in Piraeus and since 1971 has a master’s degree in civil engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.
Charagionis Group is a family business group specialising in development and long-term exploitation of professional real estate in the centres of the most important Greek cities, including Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki, focusing on development and management of car parking stations and luxury goods retail.
His professional experience has been enhanced by postgraduate programs: 1987 University of Shopping Centres in Atlanta (GA) and 1988 in San Francisco (CA). 1996 Business Administration at Stanford University Palo Alto (CA). 2001 – 2003 Advanced Management and Development Program and Urban Planning at Harvard GSD Boston (MA), where he served also as an instructor. 2004 Leadership at the London Business School.
Charagionis served as Jury Chairman of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), which annually awards Europe’s most important shopping centres, and he is a member of the ICSC Europe Advisory Committee and Chairman of the ICSC Hellenic National Committee. He presides over the Association for the Investment and Development of Real Estate (ΣΕΑΑΚ) and a current member of ULI (Urban Land Institute).
Charagionis is the founder and chairman of “Hellenic Motor Museum” Theodore & Joanna Charagionis Foundation, housed in a 5,000 m2 part of Capitol complex, located downtown Athens, between National Archaeological Museum and Victoria Metro Station, exhibiting 120 historic cars alternating from a collection numbering triple.
Sigrid Duhamel joined BNP Paribas REIM in July 2017. In her capacity of CEO of BNP Paribas REIM France, she manages a team of 170 people, encompassing fund raising, product development, fund management, investment, divestments and asset management as well as all functional activities. Sigrid Duhamel is also member of the Executive Committee of BNP Paribas REIM.
Since 1st March 2020, and in addition to her current position as CEO for France, Sigrid is Global Chief Investment Officer. She is in charge of overseeing investments, divestments and asset management across all the markets and for all assets classes.
Prior to joining BNP Paribas REIM, Sigrid Duhamel was President of CBRE Global Investors France. She was formerly Corporate Real Estate Director of Groupe PSA, where she managed the global real estate portfolio.
Sigrid Duhamel has dual citizenship, French and Danish. She holds a Master in Sciences in Civil Engineering and graduated in 1990 from Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics (ESTP). She earned her MBA from INSEAD in 1995
Manfred Guenterberg is a member of the Management Board of Wolfsburg AG and in charge for Finance, Accounting, Investments and Real Estate Developments. Wolfsburg AG is one of the most successful Public Private Partnership companies in Europe with their two shareholders Volkswagen and the City of Wolfsburg (50% each). Manfred has a long-time experience in leadership and has been a member of ULI for nearly 20 years. .
Sophie leads the business development and marketing efforts for the European Division of international design practice, STUDIOS Architecture, based out of Paris. As managing director, she is also tasked with the general management of the office. She joined STUDIOS in 2007 and was promoted to Associate Principal in 2011. In 2013 she was named a Principal and in April 2015 she was also named Managing Director of the Paris office.
Sophie served as Juror for the ULI Global Awards from 2015 to 2017. She was a long standing member of the ULI France steering committee and co-managed the Urban Regeneration Product council in France alongside Sigrid Duhamel. She is currently a Global Trustee.
Prior to joining STUDIOS, Sophie had an extensive career in publishing – serving as Associate Publisher of the Art Newspaper and, prior to that, was an Illustrated Books Commissioning Editor at a variety of high profile publishers both in Paris and London. She holds an MBA from INSEAD and a First Class honours degrees in French Literature and Art History from University College London (UCL).
Karolina is an industry expert with almost 30 years of experience and a prominent position in Warsaw’s commercial real estate market. For the last several years she has been building the luxury residential market in the capital city and has unique experience in the hospitality & leisure sector.
Since December 2014 until November 2020, Karolina has been the CEO of Tacit Investment. She was the driving force behind the successful sales of apartments at Cosmopolitan, as well as projects of two luxury hotels: The Bridge Wroclaw and Nobu Hotel Warsaw. She has also created a new brand – High Level Sales & Marketing – which specialises in luxury real estate services for the most discerning clients.
As the CEO of Upper Property, Karolina Kaim provides support to investors in planning and administrative processes aimed at increasing the potential of their real estate properties. She has spent 15 years building Platan Group. Between 1991-99 she worked for Jones LangLaSalle, introducing the company into the Polish market and being involved in its operations and management.
Karolina is a member of the ULI Poland Executive Committee and is an Ambassador of the White Star Foundation.
Tinka Kleine is Senior Director at PGGM, a Dutch pension fund service provider. She is responsible for the European private real estate investment portfolio and has a seat in the Investment Committee that governs the global private real estate portfolio of approx. 14 billion euro. Prior to joining PGGM in 2006, Tinka worked as an investment manager at a Dutch residential company, as a sell-side real estate analyst at a brokerage firm and as a real estate consultant in the Netherlands and Berlin.
Tinka studied Economics and Urban Planning at the University of Amsterdam and became Master of Financial Analysis at the Free University of Amsterdam.
Vanessa joined Europa Capital as Head of Research & Strategy in September 2020. She is responsible for providing expert guidance to support Europa’s tactical and strategic business support needs.
Before joining Europa Capital, Vanessa held research roles at M&G Real Estate & LaSalle Investment Management. She received an MSc in Property Development & Planning from University College London and an MEng in European Civil Engineering from the University of Warwick.
Vanessa demonstrates commitment to the research community in her roles as Past Chair of the Society of Property Researchers (SPR), and current member of the INREV Research Committee and Urban Land Institute (ULI) Smart Urban Growth group, Urban Regeneration Council, Women Leadership Initiative and Europe Awards for Excellence jury.
After studying at the Faculty of Architecture of the Delft University of Technology and the Rotterdam School of Management, Petran gained extensive national and international experience on the development, construction and financial sides at the multi-nationals Royal BAM Group (1998) and Rabobank Real Estate (2008). Before starting at Eteck (2021) he worked as a sector banker in Real Estate at ABN AMRO (2015). One of the projects of special interest was ABN AMRO’s award winning circular pavilion, in Amsterdam’s CBD Zuidas, Circl.
Currently, Petran is heading the team of energy development/investment managers at Eteck Energy. Eteck is a fast-growing company and one of the largest developers, owners and operator of collective heating systems (“SCHS”) in the Netherlands. Mid 2017 Infracapital, the infrastructure investment arm of M&G investments, has acquired the majority of the shares because of the sustainable growth potential.
