How to Form a Team
Each team must be composed of four students.
There is no limit to the number of teams from any university or business school. Intercollegiate teams and teams with members in different countries are welcome. We also welcome individual or team applications of less than four members and we can help create intercollegiate teams.
Hines and ULI are strong advocates for greater diversity in real estate and this competition intends to showcase the future we want to see for our sector. We therefore require that teams demonstrate diversity.
We strongly encourage gender diversity, however diversity can be achieved in many ways so we ask you to explain in your own words how this is achieved in your team so that this can be considered in the judging process.
It is worth noting that diverse teams have regularly performed strongly in previous competitions, as the variety of mindsets and perspectives helps drive creativity and problem solving.
The challenge will require some prior knowledge and understanding of certain fundamental concepts. We therefore recommend your team has someone with each of the following specialist skills:
- real estate,
- design and architecture
- planning and sustainable development
- social and environmental issues and
- financial modelling skills.
Students from different educational institutions may form a single team. For example, if your university does not offer a landscape architecture program and you would like to have that discipline represented in your team, you can work with another university to achieve the mix you seek.
If you are struggling to form a diverse team, please email [email protected] and we can introduce you to other universities / business schools.
Each team member must be currently enrolled full-time as a university or business school student in a degree-granting programme.
Exception: Part-time graduate students may participate in the competition provided that they have completed one semester by the start of the competition, and they will be a part-time student during the entire competition period of 4 December 2023 to 15 April 2024.
Once the team has submitted their application, it must remain intact throughout the entire process. Team members can be replaced only in extraordinary circumstances and with written approval from ULI, requests should be emailed to [email protected].
If you would like to enter but do not have a team of four, please contact [email protected] for assistance.
Team members are not required to be members of ULI.
