ULI Europe Conference Primer | Geopolitical risk and the investment landscape
Ahead of ULI Europe Conference in Milan, explore geopolitics and its complex implications for real estate
The Urban Land Institute (ULI) Europe in collaboration with the RecAp – Resilient Cities Accelerator Program, will showcase some of the most innovative proptech solutions to key real estate challenges at next week’s flagship ULI Europe Conference (Milan, 10-13 June 2024).
Twelve start-ups and scaleups offering diverse, ground-breaking ESG-related solutions, have been selected to participate in the inaugural Innovation Village following a survey of ULI members to establish both the challenges and innovation priorities of the industry. The challenges identified included biodiversity, energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable materials, and air quality, among others, while the innovation drivers included improved time efficiency, profitability, and cost efficiency.
Confirmed participants on the Innovation Village will include Blue Auditor, dnergy, eSafe, Hococo. Impact Us Today, Mitiga Solutions – EarthScan, Palmki by Perfect ID, Parking Around, Portio, simpl.rent, Singu, and Solum. Delegates at the ULI Conference can schedule a tailored ‘innovation tour’ of the village to discover the ground-breaking technologies and disruptive business models and meet many of the firms participating.
Sara Trontelj, Programme Director, RecAp, comments, “We’re pleased to be collaborating with ULI to deliver a highly focused, curated experience relevant to the requirements of real estate leaders attending the conference. Globally, there are approximately 10,000 proptech start-ups is existence, and there’s around 3,500 in Europe. Of those, 800 can be quantified as ESG-related, innovating in multiple environmental and social areas. As such, it was important for us to cut through the ‘noise’ and just focus on solutions for the most relevant, pressing priorities for the industry.”
Beth Beeson, Vice President, ULI Europe, comments, “AI, technology, and digitalisation were ranked second only to ESG as the top trends for real estate’s future, according to the ULI and PwC Emerging Trends in Real Estate Europe survey. Our Innovation Village therefore has a strong opportunity to find some solutions for some of the most important challenges our industry faces and will provide a great addition to our extensive programme planned for ULI Europe Conference in Milan. We’re looking forward to welcoming all our members along.”
Next week’s ULI Europe Conference is set to welcome more nearly 70 speakers and around 800 real estate leaders from across Europe and the world to Milan. The event gathers the whole industry, from investors, asset managers and developers to architects and public officials, and together their decisions affect hundreds of billions of euros in real estate.
The conference will focus on some of the latest global real estate trends, including the impact of geopolitics on real estate, macroeconomics, responsible investment and ESG, and many other areas. Keynote speakers will include José Manuel Durão Barroso, former President of the European Commission; Janet Henry, Global Chief Economist, HSBC; and Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan.
Over four days, the full programme will feature keynotes, panels, high level round tables and forums, meetings, site tours showcasing Milan’s exemplary development projects, and networking opportunities. The event will also host the annual ULI European Leadership Awards, 13 European Product Council meetings, and an extended programme for both Young Leaders (under 35s) and NEXT (aged 35-45) members.
