The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has appointed Boudewijn Ruitenburg as the Chair of ULI Netherlands for a two-year term. He succeeds Nicole Maarsen, consultant and co-founder of Home.Earth.
Boudewijn is Chief Operating Officer and an Executive Committee Member of Edge, a sustainability-focused real estate developer specialising in a new generation of high-tech buildings that put the health and wellbeing of their tenants and the planet first and foremost.
ULI is the world’s oldest and largest network of cross-disciplinary real estate experts, with almost 50,000 members globally. ULI Netherlands involves over 300 leading real estate stakeholders from the private and public sectors representing all disciplines within the Dutch commercial and residential property market. It has an active events calendar, including for Young Leaders (members aged under 35), NEXT (members aged 35-45), and themed Product Councils looking at Residential, Sustainability and Urban Regeneration. ULI Netherlands also runs a mentorship scheme, connecting senior-level executives in the real estate industry with Young Leader members of ULI who are under the age of 35.
As Chair of ULI Netherlands, Boudewijn’s role will comprise working with the country’s Executive Committee to further roll out ULI’s global mission priorities, around addressing the most pressing issues in our industry relating to rising inequality, housing affordability, and climate change.
“For me, ULI is a force for good within our industry and it is a privilege to undertake the role of Chair in the Netherlands, where I believe we are already making great progress to address some of our built environment’s biggest challenges,” comments Boudewijn Ruitenburg. “Through cultivating the knowledge-sharing platform that ULI offers to its members, not just here in the Netherlands, but globally, I believe that as an organisation we are likely to be the best placed to ensure that the real estate industry has a positive impact on our planet and our communities.”
Following several years of active involvement with ULI Europe, Tinka Kleine, Senior Director at PGGM, a Dutch pension fund service provider, has joined ULI Netherlands’ Executive Committee. At PGGM, Kleine is responsible for the European private real estate investment portfolio and has a seat in the Investment Committee that governs the global private real estate portfolio of approx. 20 billion euros.
Lisette van Doorn, CEO, ULI Europe, comments, “I would like to thank Nicole Maarsen for her dedication to putting the foundations in place for ULI Netherlands to further develop on, by developing a solid programme of events and member engagement. We have an outstanding base of real estate leaders here in the Netherlands, with a lot of best practice to share more broadly. Boudewijn, already a highly engaged ULI member in Europe, has an incredible energy and passion for driving change within our industry – I am delighted that he will be leading the charge in the Netherlands. I am also very pleased that Tinka has agreed to join the Executive committee. She has been an esteemed jury member for ULI Europe Awards of Excellence since the launch of the programme, as well as a longstanding Product Council member and she will additionally be a great asset to the Committee.
