LONDON (9 December 2020) – The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has announced the appointment of eight respected real estate professionals who will make up the ULI Europe Young Leaders Executive Committee from 2020-2022. The diverse group of industry leaders will be responsible for stewarding the Institute’s members aged under 35 across the EMEA region and has already begun setting out a programme to increase networking, learning and development opportunities.
The ULI Europe Young Leaders Executive Committee is chaired by William Riordan, director at Value Retail Management, who started his role in July 2020 and also includes:
“This talented team represents the best of our young leaders and brings a diverse range of views from sectors including investment management, construction, city planning and sustainability,” said William Riordan. “We have exciting plans to further enhance the relevance and impact of the ULI Europe Young Leaders Group and will be finding creative ways to highlight their achievements as well as seeking to strengthen connections between ULI members of different generations.”
ULI Europe CEO, Lisette van Doorn, said: “The Young Leaders Programme is key to enhancing inclusivity into real estate, which is one of the Institute’s main priorities. The ULI Europe Young Leaders Executive Committee will bring forward programming ideas which are tailored to those aged under 35, as well as providing opportunities to help them develop their careers. At the same time, our industry is impacted by themes like technology, which are often better understood by younger generations and therefore many of the programmes and events organised by the young leaders are also open to our other members who highly appreciate these. The senior leadership team at ULI are passionate about growing the influence of the Young Leaders and have offered their full support.”
“The fresh perspective and capability of our industry’s young professionals will be incredibly important, especially as we navigate a ‘new normal’ following the global pandemic,” said Marnix Galle, chairman of ULI Europe and executive chairman of Belgian developer, Immobel. “The Young Leaders will help us to find innovative solutions to complex challenges including the intensifying impacts of climate change, urbanisation, and digitalisation around the world. The future of our built environments and cities will ultimately be in their hands and I look forward to working with these bright individuals to enhance ULI and develop programmes relevant for a broad member base.”
There are currently over 1000 members aged under 35 as part of the ULI Europe Young Leaders Programme. The annual programme of pan-European events, including the annual Young Leaders Forum and webinars, is sponsored by AXA Investment Managers and PATRIZIA, with further sponsorship opportunities available. In addition, many local and regional events and programmes are organised including Lunch & Learn sessions, study tours, and mentorship programmes, and in 2021 the group will launch a new flagship podcast entitled Disrupt & Build, featuring some of the most impactful new leaders in the built environment. Significant industry issues that will be focussed on this year include building mechanisms to generate and quantify social impact, and the importance of diversity to propel industry innovation.
The ULI Europe Young Leaders Executive Committee will work closely with Young Leaders Groups that have been created in 12 out of the 14 National Councils across the EMEA region, including ULI Belgium; ULI France; ULI Greece & Cyprus; ULI Germany/Austria/Switzerland; ULI Ireland; ULI Italy; ULI Netherlands; ULI Poland; ULI Spain; ULI Sweden; ULI Turkey; and, ULI United Kingdom.
