ULI Italy Breakfast Meeting: Horizontal and vertical mobility in urban regeneration
December 19, 2018
On Thursday 13 December 2018, ULI Italy hosted a breakfast meeting for 45 participants in Milan on the subject of mobility as a part of placemaking.
Leading the session, Professor Paul Friedi (Innovation Lab Chief, Schindler) explained the company’s mobility solutions for the future, including a presentation of PORT Technology, which can improve the elevator traffic management in a building by up to 50%.
He explained that a holistic approach is needed but that we also need to challenge convention. In the present market, where companies are inevitably copied, he strongly advocated establishing partnerships. Innovation is needed in the elevator and escalator industry to focus not only on the production but also on research of how to implement transit management in a way that will “make people happy”.
Professor Friedi ended the session by proposing his vision on future cities, where mobility not only means the best circulation inside the buildings, but to think about new urban solutions pushing people to walk and create communities.
