In the autumn of 2014, ULI unveiled ULI NEXT Global, an initiative to engage the next generation of ULI leaders. The programme, which targets ULI members between the ages of 35 and 45, offers tailored programming and events that help participants reach the next level of both their careers and their service to ULI.
“ULI NEXT Global was founded by a group of members with a special set of concerns facing those ages 35 to 45,” said ULI Global CEO Patrick Phillips. “These include career advancement strategies, work/life balance issues, and finding pathways to leadership in ULI.”
ULI NEXT Global not only offers members ample networking opportunities, but also gives them a voice in the wider organisation. Marcus Hale, ULI UK Executive Committee member and Europe membership liaison for ULI NEXT Global, experienced this benefit when he and other programme members attended the ULI Midwinter Meeting in Paris alongside senior ULI leadership earlier this year.
“You were talking about big-picture, global issues with senior leaders in the industry, beyond the day-to-day operation of your team,” said Hale, director of design and construction at Tishman Speyer in London. “There was respect for the fact that we were in the room. We felt we had been recognised, that we had attained a certain level within the organisation. And there was an appreciation of having younger voices present.”
Currently, ULI NEXT Global is seeking to establish a presence in Europe by recruiting members between the ages of 35 and 45 with a demonstrated track record of leadership either within their organisations or through ULI.
