    Speakers

    Fiona Scott

    Director, Gort Scott

    Fiona co-founded architecture and urbanism practice Gort Scott in 2007. She is leading the consultant design team on the Old Oak masterplan in the area around the forthcoming Old Oak Common station, for OPDC. She is known for her research involving high streets and town centres and the geography of London’s economy. She co-authored “High Streets and Town Centres, Adaptive Strategies” with the GLA. WIthin Gort Scott she manages the integration of wider architectural, societal, cultural, environmental and policy influences in the practice, as well as accountability and advocating for a more inclusive industry. Fiona studied architecture at Royal College of Art and was a Research Associate at the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre. She one of the London Mayor’s Design Advocates.

    Stephen Cowan

    Leader, London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham

    Cllr Stephen Cowan has been the Leader of the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) since 2014. Under his leadership, H&F has developed a national reputation for its bold approach to change. Stephen set up a ground-breaking industrial strategy partnership with Imperial College London (ICL) designed to make H&F a global hotspot in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and creative industries.

    Howard Dawber

    Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth, Mayor of London

    Howard was appointed Deputy Mayor for Business and Chair of London and Partners in December 2023. Before joining the Mayor’s team, Howard worked in business for thirty years, spending 17 years as Managing Director for Strategy of the Canary Wharf Group. At Canary Wharf, Howard was involved in the development of the Elizabeth Line and supporting the 2012 Olympic Bid and Olympic Legacy as well as commercial inward investment projects in tech, health and life sciences, and financial services. He has been an active member of business organisations including Business LDN, London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, TheCityUK and the London Property Alliance. He is a trustee of “The Line” art walk along the River Lea. Formerly Chair of the East End Community Foundation (2013-2022) he is now a patron of the charity, and a patron and former Vice-President of UK Youth. Howard was Chair of the Business Advisory Board for the University of East London School of Business and Law and has been a visiting lecturer at the School. Howard was a Parliamentary Candidate for the Labour Party and is the Chair of Labour Friends of Bangladesh and Labour Friends of USA. He lives in London and is married with a daughter.

    Eleanor Fawcett

    Head of Design, Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation

    Eleanor is the Head of Design at the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation. She has led the organisation’s activities shaping urban change since 2016, from projects co-designed with local communities and businesses to strategic plans which will help realise the nationally significant opportunities catalysed by the new Old Oak HS2 station. A major focus is leading the development of an ambitious design-led vision for the creation of a new urban district at Old Oak, with 9,000 new homes and a major new town centre. Eleanor played a central role in the shaping and delivery of the Olympic Legacy and transformation of the Lea Valley for over a decade, as Head of Design at the London Legacy Development Corporation, and prior to that at Design for London. Her background is in architecture and urban planning, and she has worked for the Mayor of London for over 20 years where she champions the role of excellent design to enable successful regeneration and establish good places via strategy, planning, community collaboration and project delivery.

    Nuala Gallagher

    Corporate Director City Development, Liverpool City Council

    Nuala has over two decades of experience in urban development and placemaking internationally. Prior to Liverpool, Nuala was Director of Planning, Environment & Placemaking at Limerick City, before this she was Director for Economy of Place at Bristol City Council, Director of City Centre Development at Belfast City Council and Head of Regeneration for the London Borough of Newham. Nuala has also worked in New York in the private and non-profit sectors, leading on sustainable and inclusive urban development in a low-income area of New York City. Nuala started her career in private sector as an architect and in public sector in housing in Ireland. She is a registered architect with a master’s in urban design and has taught at Columbia University.
