    Join us at the ULI Netherlands Annual conference on June 9 in CIRCL Amsterdam. The programme will offer a line up with professionals who are shaping the urban life of tomorrow. Get inspired by leaders from the broader scope of the urban world, who will share their latest national and international insights on how to tackle major spatial challenges, the latest insight on resilient cities, ESG, Impact investing, affordable housing and building communities.     We proudly present our KEYNOTE Jonathan F.P. Rose. Rose is one of the real estate industry’s most respected champions of inclusive, equitable, and sustainable community building, won the 2021 recipient of the ULI Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development. Rose is the president and founder of New York City-based Jonathan Rose Companies LLC (JRCo), a multidisciplinary real estate development, planning, and investment firm that focuses on creating affordable, transit-accessible communities that are culturally and socially diverse, environmentally conscious, and economically prosperous. Mr Jonathan Rose will share his thoughts (online) on the Dutch Market and how we can do better.

    Ben van Berkel – UNStudio: What We Want Has Never Been Done. One million extra homes, energy transition, mobility issues and climate adaptation; how can we find local solutions to these integrated issues.

    Carolien Gehrels - Director energy transition ARCADIS will share her experience on how to achieve solutions for resilient cities by using all available resources: people, raw materials and data.

    Arnoud Molenaar - Chief Resilience Officer for the city of Rotterdam will showcase their latest insights and strategy for 2022-2027.

    Marja Appelman –Director Housing The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) will speak about the necessity to cooperate in area development, regarding the major spatial challenges in The Netherlands.

    Mieke will share her expertise on programming and developping ‘mixed zones’ in urban areas, by offering a mix of traditional and innovative concepts concepten. Mieke Verschoor has a strong focus on co-working with local parties to build an attractive and sustainable, futureproof community.

    Jonathan F.P. Rose’s business, public policy and not-for-profit work all focus on creating more environmentally, socially and economically resilient cities. In 1989, Mr. Rose founded Jonathan Rose Companies LLC, a multi-disciplinary real estate development, planning, and investment firm, which creates real estate and planning models to address the challenges of the 21st century. Jonathan has lead the firm’s vision, program and growth, developing award winning new projects, investment funds and city plans to model solutions to the issues of housing, economic development and the environment. The company’s mission is to develop communities that enhance opportunity for all. The firm’s work touches many aspects of community health; working with cities and not-for-profits to build affordable and mixed-income housing, cultural, health and educational infrastructure, and advocates for neighborhoods to be enriched with parks and open space, mass transit, jobs and healthy food. The firm’s innovative development, planning, investment, and owners representation work has won awards from a wide range of notable organizations including: the Urban Land Institute, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Architects. Mr. Rose frequently lectures on affordable housing, community development, smart growth and the environment. Mr. Rose’s book on how to create resilient cities, The Well-Tempered City: What Modern Science, Ancient Civilizations and Human Nature Teach Us About the Future of Urban Life, was published by Harper Wave in 2016, and won the 2017 PROSE Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work by a Trade Publisher. Mr. Rose frequently lectures at graduate schools of business, environment and architecture. In 2015, he held the Yale School of Architecture’s Edward P. Bass Distinguished Visiting Architectural Fellowship.

    Tracy Metz

    journalist and Author ,

    Tracy Metz, a native of California, is a journalist and author based in the Netherlands. She writes for the national newspaper NRC Handelsblad and is an international correspondent for the New York-based magazine Architectural Record. She was a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She is the author of a number of books, including FUN! Leisure and Landscape, about the impact of our leisure activities on the way we use and perceive our surroundings. Her most recent book is Sweet&Salt: Water and the Dutch, on the extreme makeover of the Dutch landscape to accommodate a new relationship to water.

    Wim Wensing is Chief Investment Officer at Amvest. He is working for Amvest since 2011. Wim is member of the Leadership Board Amvest (residential real estate developer and investment manager), Director (chair) of Amvest Real Estate Investment Management (REIM) BV, the IM company of Amvest and managing the Amvest Residential Core Fund; Amvest Living & Care Fund. Within Amvest he has EUR 7.1 bn assets under Management. Wim previous held the position of fund manager and managing director at ING REIM (CBRE Investment Management) from 2000 until 2011.

    Ben Van Berkel

    Ben van Berkel studied architecture at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and at the Architectural Association in London, receiving the AA Diploma with Honours in 1987. In 1988 he founded the Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau with the Caroline Bos, extending their theoretical and writing projects to the practice of architecture. In 1998 Ben van Berkel co-founded UNStudio (United Net). He has lectured and taught at many architectural schools around the world. Currently he holds the Kenzo Tange Visiting Professor's Chair at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In 2018 he founded UNSense, an Arch Tech company based in Amsterdam that designs and integrates human-centric tech solutions for the built environment.

    Arnoud Molenaar

    Chief Resilience Officer, City of Rotterdam

    After graduating in Physical Geography, Arnoud started his career with ambitious trainee posts and jobs abroad. As deputy head of the Rotterdam Water Management Department, he was responsible for the Waterplan2Rotterdam. In 2008, he was appointed Manager of the Rotterdam Climate Proof program. Arnoud is first editor of the book “Resilient Cities and Climate Adaptation Strategies” (2014). He was responsible for Rotterdam’s first Resilience Strategy (2016) and joined the Global Center on Adaptation as lead Cities (2018). In 2019 he hosted the Global Urban Resilience Summit in Rotterdam and joined the Global Steering Committee at the Resilient Cities Network. Recently (2022) he coordinated the development of the ‘Resilient Rotterdam Strategy 2022-2027’.

    Nicole held positions as board member at several Dutch-based real estate companies and branch organizations: Maarsen Groep, Syntrus Achmea Real Estate & Finance, NEPROM and IVBN. 20+ years of experience as a developer and long-term investor. Since 2021 Nicole is chair for the ULI Netherlands.

    Carolien Gehrels

    Director, Big Urban Clients (BUC), Arcadis ESG

    Carolien Gehrels is Arcadis’ Global Director – Energy Transition since 2014. Carolien holds numerous board positions, including member of the Supervisory Board of the Technical University of Delft, member of the Board of Worldwaternet, Amsterdam, member of the Council for the creative industries (an initiative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs), member of the Council of the Platform Urban Renewal (DB Platform Stedelijke Vernieuwing). Carolien has notably held consultant positions in the past at Berenschot, including as marketing director in the breakthrough Amsterdam city marketing campaign. Between 2006 and 2014 Carolien was Alderman and Vice Mayor for the city of Amsterdam.

    I am passionate about the residential impact strategy we are currently launching in the major European cities. We strive to contribute to inclusive cities and communities, by delivering affordable, good quality and sustainable homes for middle income households. My earlier experience is in the field of asset and portfolio management in the sectors residential and retail. I have been heading the Dutch retail asset management team and was part of the European retail platform within CBRE Investment Management.

    CEO Woonplus Schiedam, the largest housing association of Schiedam. Emile Klep formaly worked for the City of Rotterdam in the position of managing director urban regeneration and fysical planning where Emile focussed on sustainability, energy transition, housing and mobility. Emile is executive board member of ULI Netherlands since 2019.

    Xavier Jongen

    Managing Director,, Catella Real Estate AG

    Xavier Jongen (1970, Las Palmas), MD Catella European Residential, graduated from Sciences-Po Paris, holds a post-graduate Master of the College of Europe in Bruges (with Honours) and the Cambridge IPF Diploma. Further trainings at Fannie Mae, Stanford Business School and the Ayn Rand Institute. Xavier is MD European Residential at Catella. Xavier was the first to introduce a pan-European residential investment fund in 2007. The portfolio grew to over 5 bn EUR in AuM with assets in 9 countries and 9 sub-sectors. He also set up a Residential Alliance to manage the portfolio across the continent, innovate and improve quality standards. Xavier started analysing housing and capital market fundamentals whilst working for World Bank/IMF/EU structural adjustment programmes to liberalise socialist housing markets in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Russia, after the fall of the Berlin wall. From 1996 to May 2005, Xavier worked in parallel as a public speaker for the European Commission in Brussels on EU integration for target priority groups (politicians, journalists, CEO’s). Xavier was a tutor and module leader at Cambridge University as well as a Governor of the Cambridge International Land Institute where he founded the SOLUM foundation which convened annually the 12 most powerful real estate CEO’s to discuss matters of globalization in the real estate industry, until its implosion during the GFC. He chaired the first INREV EU Public Affairs committee and the first ULI European Residential committee and is currently a Global ULI Trustee.
