The municipality of Amsterdam has asked the ULI to use its international knowledge for the developments within the framework of the Port-City programme. This is an ambitious plan to transform part of the existing port, just outside the city centre, into a new mixed-use, dense and sustainable urban district, known as Haven-Stad (Port City).
It will be a complex project, due to the number of stakeholders involved and some restrictions on development, and planning for the necessary infrastructure will be crucial. The City of Amsterdam is seeking international expertise to learn how to create partnerships that can make this investment possible and has convened a ULI Advisory Services Workshop, which will be meeting 25–28 February 2019, as the initial step in a long-term process to create this new district.
Five world-renowned experts from urban planning, design, architecture and real estate finance will make up the interdisciplinary and international workshop of ULI members, which will be chaired by Chris Choa (Vice President, AECOM), who is also a Global Trustee of the ULI and Chair of ULI UK. Over four days, the workshop will include site tours and interviews with local stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of the issues facing Haven-Stad before presenting detailed recommendations back to the City of Amsterdam.
Since 1947, Advisory Services have supported communities to find strategic, practical solutions for the most challenging issues facing today’s urban, suburban, and rural areas. If you are interested in participating in a future Advisory Services programme, please register your interest here.
