After decades of a global urban Renaissance, what’s left to regenerate? Will COVID accelerate the forces already changing how and where we live, work and shop? This provocative debate will explore these threats and what should we be doing now to better understand and counter them.

    Bill Kistler

    Urban-Ovation

    William P. Kistler (https://www.linkedin.com/in/wpkistler/) With over 30 years of international real estate experience, Bill Kistler is a strategist with a global network of industry and government relationships. His career has included development, advisory and investment work in the residential, retail, hotel and office sectors. Bill currently leads the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) in EMEA. He also founded and remains Chairman of the Urban Innovation Network (UIN), a network of academic, business and government leaders. Prior to this Mr. Kistler was the Senior Partner at Korn/Ferry International where he led the Real Estate practice in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). From 2003 - 2009 he was President of the Urban Land Institute–EMEA a non-profit, research and education institute dedicated to the built environment. Previous to joining ULI, Mr. Kistler was founder and Managing Director of Equinox partners, an advisory and executive search firm focused on the real estate industry with offices in Europe and the US. The firm’s clients included developers, investors, corporations and governments in Europe, India and the Middle East. Before this he was General Manager of the Disney Development Company, responsible for the planned community of Val d’Europe at Disneyland Paris. Mr. Kistler’s prior experience includes senior roles at JMB Properties in Chicago, Cushman & Wakefield in New York. He began his career at IBM where he spent 12 years overseeing the company’s real estate in New York and Paris. Mr. Kistler is a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute. He is an Architect and holds a BS in Architecture from the University of Southern California. June 2018

    Pieter Klomp

    City of Amsterdam

    Pieter Klomp is deputy director of the department of Urban Planning and Sustainability of the city of Amsterdam. He is leading the program "Koers 2025", which aims to accommodate the strong growth of Amsterdam, aiming towards strengthening a sustainable and human scale metropolis. As supervisor at the Northern IJbanks he has been actively involved in the current transformation of the Amsterdam waterfront. Pieter is trained as a landscape architect at Wageningen University, and holds a mba degree from TiasNimbas/Bradford University.

    Gerard Groener

    Managing Director, Ingka Centres Holding BV

    Gerard Groener has held the position of Managing Director of Ingka Centres since March 2016. He joined the company with 30 years of international experience in retail real estate. He also has extensive knowledge stretching from financing to operations and consumer behaviour. Gerard joined Ingka Centres as Deputy Manager in June 2015 having previously worked for Dutch-based retail property company Corio, where he held different positions within the firm from 1996. He was ultimately appointed the CEO in 2008 and stayed on until 2015, when Corio was acquired by French property company Klépierre. Gerard is married and has three children, together with his family he lives in the Netherlands. He loves sports and played major-league handball for 10 years and the national junior team for 2 years. Nowadays, he enjoys hiking, reading and jazz.

    Lara Marrero

    Lara joined the Gensler team in 2002 and has more than 20 years of experience spanning retail, brand, hospitality, and entertainment experiences. As strategy director and one of Gensler’s Retail Leaders, Lara brings insights that result in innovative and powerful strategies that generate engagement between brands, places, and people. With an education that spans psychology, advertising, marketing, and cultural anthropology, she has honed her ability to translate complex global consumer trends and insights into understandable, workable, and profitable outcomes for her clients. Lara was named one of design:retail magazine’s 40 under 40 in 2017 and is considered a leading voice on the future of retail; she is regularly sought after to speak at influential events and with leading publications and national media.

    Bob van der Zande

    Urban Strategist, Balthasar and Partners B.V.

    Bob van der Zande Director Residential Markets Development Corporation City of Amsterdam Amsterdam Bob van der Zande is Director Residential Markets for the City of Amsterdam since 2009. He is responsible for several residential programmes in the city, such as the midsegment rental housing, the self-built housing programme and Student and Youth housing. He works for the city administration as well as strategic advisor for the Metropolitan Region organisation, which includes 16 smaller cities in the surroundings. He was founder of the Development Corporation in 2003 and served as COO until 2009. His commitment with ULI started when he was co-founder of the Urban Investment Network, a European ULI network that tries to improve the cooperation between private investors and city administrations. Co-founders were Barcelona, Istanbul, Edinburgh and Torino from the public side and Allianz, ING, ECE and Corio from the private side. He organised a Summit for the Urban Investment Network in Amsterdam in November 2011, in the midst of a huge real estate crisis. He is a member of the Watertorenberaad, a national council for innovative spatial development and since 2013 member of the board of ULI The Netherlands. Last year he was invited to give his advise and lectures for ULI Ireland, ULI Belgium and ULI Germany. He is visiting lecturer at the University of Amsterdam. He is also responsible for the real estate marketing strategy for Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and the Hague (the big four in the Netherlands) at the largest European real estate fair, the Expo Real in Munich. He started the Amsterdam Investors Office Residential a year ago, to improve the market in the region for residential development. The Office receives all kinds of investors big and small, institutional and private to guide them to the locations that match with their investment strategy. It recently created an agenda for a selection of 15 development sites to be put on the market in 2014. He started his work in urban (re)development in the 80’s when parts of Amsterdam where occupied by squatters. People were moving out of the city, suburbanisation was the main strategy. In the west part he worked on urban renewal, together with the 6 Housing Associations (they still posess 50% of all dwellings in Amsterdam which means some 200.000) and inhabitants that lived in poor circumstances. Later on he attributed to the Waterfront Development in the Eastern Docks, the development of the mixed-use area Zuidas and a new strategy for cooperative development on the Zeeburgereiland, a 14 ha area near the City center. He graduated as urban designer at the Delft University of Technology in 1978. (March 2014)

    Andrew Vaughan

    CEO, Redevco

    Andrew Vaughan joined Redevco as the United Kingdom Managing Director in 2000. In 2004 he was appointed Managing Director for United Kingdom & Nordics, and in 2007 was nominated to the Board in the role of COO of Western Europe (except Benelux). In 2010, Andrew took responsibility for the entire European portfolio and subsequently was appointed CEO in November 2011. Prior to joining Redevco, Andrew served at Moorfield Group Plc (1997-2000), where he managed the joint venture partnership with the Blackstone Group and other US PE Groups. From 1992 to 1997, he worked for Friends Provident Life Office where he was ultimately appointed Fund Manager, assuming responsibility for the entire City and West End portfolio. In 1997 Andrew joined the Moorfield Group Plc as investment and development specialist where he managed the joint venture partnership with the Blackstone Group and was key member of the acquisition team. In total Andrew has more than 32 years of experience in real estate. Andrew holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Urban Estate Surveying from Nottingham Trent University.
