Professor Greg Clark, CBE
Greg Clark is a Global Fellow at ULI and leads the Institute’s research on the interplay of cities, investors and occupiers, and urban development.
Clark is a widely published author on city development and business investment issues and advises many international organisations. In addition to his work for ULI he is also Chairman, OECD LEED Forum on Local Development and Investment Strategies; Global Fellow, Metropolitan Programme / Global Cities Initiative, Brookings Institution; Chairman, JLL Global Research Centre on Cities; and Visiting Professor and Co-Chairman of the Advisory Board, City Leadership Initiative, University College London.
Clark was trained as an economist, a social and political scientist, and a city and regional planner at Cambridge University, UK and Columbia University, New York as a Harkness Fellow. He is the author of 10 books and numerous reports and papers on cities and business development issues, and has won various international prizes for his work.
From 2008 to 2012, Clark was chairman of the International Advisory Board of the Sao Paulo Strategic Plan and was International Advisor on the Metropolitan Strategic Plans of Rio da Janeiro, Barcelona, Gauteng/Johannesburg, Western Cape, Toronto, Glasgow, Mumbai, Vienna, Turin and Auckland. He has advised on governance reform in London, Toronto, Barcelona, Auckland, Sao Paulo, Milan, and Oslo and has led 27 Reviews of city and regional development for the OECD. In addition, he has advised on national policies in UK, Ireland, Canada, China, India, Colombia, Sri Lanka, South Africa¸ New Zealand, Italy, Slovakia, and Latvia.
Clark regularly chairs summits and congresses on development issues and acts as a moderator for leadership forums and boards. He is currently a moderator of the World Mayors Forum, the Moscow Urban Forum, the MIPIM Mayors Think Tank, and the Asia Pacific Cities Summit. He has led more than 100 summits and events for organisations such as JP Morgan, Grosvenor, ICSC, INREV, ANREV, IEDC, ULI, OECD, the World Bank, the UN, the FT, the EIB, MIPIM, LSE, Brookings Institution, and the EU Council.
Clark also contributes to leadership boards in the UK. He is a Board Member of both the London Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the London Economic Strategy Group (EDP), the Mayor of London’s economic development board. He is Chairman of London Stansted Cambridge Consortium and a Member of the Lead Expert Board for the UK Government’s Future of Cities Foresight Project. He was previously a Commissioner on the UK City Growth Commission, Chairman of British BIDs (2010 to 2014), a Commissioner on the West End Commission (2012-2013) and Member of the Promote London Council (2009/2011).
From 1988-2008, Clark held a range of senior roles including Lead Advisor on City & Regional Development, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, UK Government; Executive Director of Strategy and Communications, London Development Agency; Managing Director, Economic Development at Greater London Enterprise; Chief Executive, London Enterprise Agency; and International Programmes Director, London Docklands Development Corporation.
In June 2015, Clark was awarded a CBE from Queen Elizabeth for his services to Economic Development.
